“SAVE THE CHILDREN”

. RED CROSS APPEAL CLOTHES DRIVE NEXT WEEK “When you sit before your blazing fire in the evenings,” says a Red Cross appeal, “when you snuggle down under warm blankets with your hot water bottle, please think of the children of the war torn countries—they have no fires—little food—no warm sometimes not even a roof over them.” The Red Cross Society has had an urgent appeal from United Nations for clothing for these helpless victims of war. The school children in Whakatane will make a house-to-house collection on Friday, June 20, and the Red Cross Society will be grateful for the donation of any warm used clothing, blankets or rugs. It would be appreciated if garments handed in were clean and repaired. This saves delay in despatching. Parcels of clothing can be left at the Red Cross rooms on Tuesday afternoons between 2 and 4 p.m. Whakatane’s record in past clothing drives is an excellent one. Householders will be keen to maintain this record and assist the Red Cross “Save the Children” appeal.
