ROAD FATALITY

KUTARERE MAORI KILLED LYING ON ROADWAY A middle-aged half-caste Maori, James Fisher, of Kutkrere, was killed at Wainui last evening as a result of an accident. Mr Robert Biddle, a Wainui resident, states that when returning to his home about 10.30 p.m., he noticed a dark object on the road. Before he could stop he had run over it and on going back discovered the deceased who appeared to be badly hurt. He transferred him in his own car to the Whakatane Hospital, but he had died before arriving at the institution. An inquest for identification purposes will be opened today.
