RAGWORT INFESTATION
AREA AT MANAWAHE In the Whakatane Magistrates’ Court sitting yesterday, Arthur Farrelly, of Auckland, owner of a block of land at Manawahe, badly infested with ragwort, was fined £5 for failure to take the necessary measures to clear his land.
Inspector Carling sated that defendant had been first notified on January 19th, 1946, when he had been given a month’s notice to take the necessary steps. No effort had been made and recently witness had sent final notice under the Act that the work of eradication would be carried out by the County at defendant’s expense. This had been done.
Defendant wrote a letter claiming inability to secure labour.
