NEW BANK OPENS

BRANCH OF NATIONAL B.N.Z. With the opening of the new branch of the National Bank of New Zealand Ltd. last week Whakatane can now boast of four important banking institutions operating in the town. The quarters at present occupied by the branch (the Strand corner of the Civic Buildings) may be regarded as a temporary expedient until the 'building restrictions are lifted, when it is understood, the Bank will occupy buildings of its own. In the meantime the principals of the organisation have tangibly expressed their faith in Whakatane as a coming centre and the new branch addresses itself to the ppblic as an institution as old almost as the Dominion’s earliest commercial endeavours, and as one which has played no mean part in New Zealand’s magnificent development and industrial expansion.
