CIVIC RECEPTION
GESTURE TO CITIZENS’ BAND TOMORROW EVENING’S FUNCTION In view of its remarkable performance at the South Auckland Band Contest held at Te Aroha last Easter weekend, members of the Whakatane Citizens’ Band, will be tendered a complimentary reception in the St. John Ambulance Hall tomorrow (Thursday) evening at 8 p.m. Friends and citizens generally who are interested are cordially invited to attend. By winning the C Grade Championship for the greatest aggregate points throughout the contest, the band has established a standard of playing which has never hitherto been reached in Whakatane and it is the desire of the Borough Council to mark the occasion by a suitable gathering at which appreciative tributes can be made by leading citizens, and an opportunity likewise given for the band to play a number of selections and solos which figured in the actual contest.
The Mayor, Mr B. S. Barry, will preside and associated with him will be representative speakers from town and county.
