POWER SUPPLY
URGENT NEED FOR SAVING MUST BE SWITCHED OFF '“We are still some 800 units in access of our daily quota,” said Mr F. W. Lysaght, the Borough Electrical Engineer, when addressing the Borough Council last Monday evening. “We are having trouble,” he added, “with the blowing of transformers in the Allandale and Douglas Street area, where people are obviously not switching their light and power points off‘during the cut outs. On Sunday cooking units and others were left on and a freak peak has been created which is going to cause the Council some very heavy expense unless it is checked. On Sunday morning last the peak jumped 150 K.V.A. against the normal load. The freak peaks upon which were based the Borough’s purchase of total load would mean that bills running up from £IOO to £l2O would have to be faced. The Mayor said that even outside of the ‘freak’ peak load the cost was going to be far in excess of the normal charges. The Council was in effect paying more and getting less. On the motion of the Deputy Mayor the question of meeting the cost of the exaggerated loading was left in the hands of the Finance Committee.
