THE COMMUNITY SPIRIT

NOT many residents of Whakatane realised that the local bakers rendered a signal service to the community as a whole by baking on Saturday morning last. By virtue of this gesture, completely voluntary as it was, the fresh bread supply was maintained over a difficult weekend in spite of the increasing weight of the power cuts. A word of recognition and thanks in these days of unionism and strictly adhering award terms will not go amiss and public appreciation is extended the three bakeries concerned.
