VALEDICTORY

CRICKETER FAREWELLED MR ALAN FISHER HONOURED A good muster of cricketers and friends attended a social evening held in the Winter Show Buildings, Whakatane, in honour of Mr Alan Fisher who is leaving the district to take up a position in Te Awamutu. Mr N. E. Rigden, captain of the United Cricket Club, was in the chair. Chairman's Remarks In referring to the guest of the evening, Mr N. E. Rigden mentioned that Mr Fisher was going to. a higher position at Te Awamutu. He recited Mr Fisher's connection with the A.T.C. and P. and T. teams, adding that he had first taken up coaching the younger players, giving a large amount of his time to this work/ He also mentioned Mr Fisher's connection with the United Club. In Mr Fisher cricket in Whakatane was losing a good player and a man of high character and standing. Mr J. D. Rivett, president of the United Club and former president of the P. and T. Club, said that the guest had proved himself a good play errand a great sport. Mrs Fisher had likewise been a veritable tower of strength on the committees and he (the"speaker) looked forward to the day when they would be welcomed back to Whakatane.

Mr A. Whitty on behalf of the high school mentioned Mr Fisher's work in training the young people as they left school. He had done yeoman service in this direction. . Mr F. Cameron, delegate to the Cricket Association, spoke of Mr Fisher's work for the United Club and thanked him on behalf of the Boxing Association. Other speakers who enlogised the guest's work were: Messrs. H. Jackson (P. and T.), J. Rivett (Taneatua), E. Grant (Paroa), H. Riddell (P. and T.), and W. McKenzie (United). Guest's Reply Mr Fisher stated that he would miss the P. and T. boys and all the Whakatane cricketers and expressed his regret at leaving. He hoped that if his boots would stand up to another season he would meet as fine a type of chap in Te Awamutu as he had in Whakatane. Presentation

Mr Rigden then presented the guest of honour with a handsome smoker's stand as a mark of appreciation from the clubs in the Whakatane Cricket Association. He hoped that every time he used it Mr Fisher would think of his friends in this district.

The guest was accorded musical honours.
