OLIVET TO CALVARY

EASTER CANTATA COMBINED CHURCH CHOIRS . A large crowd attended the Parish Hall last week to hear the Easter Cantata, "'Olivet To Calgary," which was presented by the combined church choirs assisted by the Whakatane Orchestral Society. Mr A. Albiston was the conductor. The hall was beautifully decorated by the ladies with white Easter daisies and belladonna lilies. At the rear of the stage a large cross of white flowers was erected. The floral decorations and the evening dresses of the ladies combined to create a really lovely scene. The cantata depicted the last scenes in the life of Christ, commencing with the palm waving as he rode into Jerusalem and concluding With the crucifixion and song of praise.

The soloists who took part in the performance were Mesdames R. Darvill and T. H. Ferguson (sopranos), Mr B. Topp (tenor), Dr. A. Cole and Mr F. L. Wilson (baritones). The pianist was Miss G. Kenyon. The opening was given by Rev. A. F. Attwood and the benediction was pronounced by the Anglican Minister, Rev. N. Drake.
