OBITUARY
MISS FLORENCE RAMSON The. death occurred recently of Miss Florence Ramson, a wellknown and widely respected resident of Whakatane over a long term of years. The late Miss Ramson was born in Manchester, England, and came out with her parents in the sailing vessel Lutteiworth as a child.
The family first settled at Te Puke, where Mr Ramson had purchased a section for farming from a plan submitted to him in the Old Country. He disposed of this property and with his young family went north to Auckland joining the # firm of Owen and Graham, which was later taken over by Messrs. Sargood Son and Ewan. The family shortly after transferred to New Plymouth where Mr Ramson opened the first wholesale drapery establishment in that town.
Twenty-eight y;ears later the family came to-Whakatane and settled in this centre, becoming one of the early families who have watched and asisted towards its steady development. Miss Ramson with her sister, Miss Annie Ramson, took a keen interest in local affairs. An active worker for the St. John Ambiance, she also took a keen interest in the affairs of the Citizen’s Band. In forwarding the activities of the Methodist Church she was likewise an indefatiguable toiler and won many friends for her kindliness and thoughtfulness for others. Her sisters are Miss Annie Ramson and Mrs A. J. Canning (Whakatane); Mrs J. C. Morey (New Plymouth). The only brother is Mr Joseph Ramson also of New Plymouth. The deepest sympathy is extended to these and other relatives who sorrow their loss.
