Fishing At Ohiwa Some most satisfactory hauls of fish have been caught in the Ohiwa harbour recently. A party netted 200 flounder of good size in one haul and 17 schnapper were caught on two lines in a few hours, kingfish were also caught. '
Famine Emergency Campaign Rationing coupons surrendered at the Post Office, Whakatane, for the period 17th-22nd March, 1947, was as under: Meat £1 10s; tea ljlbs; sugar nil; butter 51bs; fats 501bs. The total collections to date are now: Sugar 191bs; tea 14ilbs; butter 231 lbs; meat £216 9s lid.
Bread and Cleanliness In the lunch hour recently, in a Waikato town two girls were noticed walking up the main street each with her hands clasping an unwrapped loaf of bread, playfully trying to take it from each mother. When a passer-by suggested that they should “pull the loaf to pieces” one of the girls calmly replied that that was what they were trying to do! They were damsels of about fourteen years of ag'fe. Insurance Coverage Incidental to a discussion on insurance of school property at a meeting of the Te Awamutu Primary School Committee, some surprise and consternation was evinced by orie or two members, when it was stated that children’s books and equipment were not included in any scheme of insurance coverage. It was pointed out that the risk, in this case, was not borne collectively, but was an individual responsibility, and the monetary values involved per person, was not large.
