REMEMBER ST. JOHN AMBULANCE.
ON Saturday next a further special effort will be made in order to raise funqls for the local branch of the St. John Ambulance Association. The record of this group of workers in the interests qf the general public is truly magnificent and we have no doubts but that the objective they have in mind will be fully realised. A Paddy’s Market such as will be held in the newly completed St. John Hall, is the type of effort which permits all who desire to help, to do so to their utmost. Donations in money and kind will be appreciated, while purchasers and customers will likewise be catered for in all types of useful and handy goods and provisions. The people in short will be given that opportunity of supporting the organisation which has already done so much to deserve their gratitude. Roll up and do your bit.
Hospitality Appreciated When the ship wrecked mariners of Whale Island thankfully reached Whakatane port yesterday morning, they were loud in their praise of the general hospitality shown them by residents who met them at the wharf. They particularly mention the crew of the M.V. Toa, Mr and Mrs T. Hall and Mr and Mrs Nev Bremner of the Commercial Hotel. Telephones through to Opotiki were buzzing merrily for the next hour as each man rang through to reassure his worried family, and later one and all caught the service car through to Opotiki at 10.20 a.m.
Bottles, Papers, Rags Donations Members of both the Land and Sea Scout troops will engage in an intensive canvass of the Borough on Saturday next in order to assist forward the building fund for the new log cabin in McGarvey’s Road. Donations of all kinds will be appreciated including bottles, papers, rags, bones or donations.
