February Rainfall The total rainfall for February registered on the Plains was 1.54' inches. For the two months of 1947 the total now is 2.75 inches. St. John’s Ambulance Benefit A gesture of appreciation to the local St: John Ambulance Association, for all the services they have rendered the sporting fraternity in this district will take the form of a Combined Sports Benefit day in the Domain on April 26. A special feature will be a humorous football match between indoor and outdoor basketball players, refereed by Mr Phil Dixon. Watch carefully for future details. Matter of Concern “The decision of the Government not to allow private retail traders to become established in certain Stateowned shops which have in some areas, been held for the exclusive use of co-operative stores, is viewed with concern,” stated the annual report of the N.Z. Retailers’ Federation, presented to the annual conference in Rotorua. While recognising the right for residents to join in a co-operative movement, %the federation felt > that private traders should be afforded the opportunity, of competing on an equal footing.
