CATHOLIC v ST. GEORGE’S A. & B. TEAMS ENGAGE ‘A’ and ‘B’ teams from the Whakatane Catholic and Anglican Tennis Clubs engaged in an enjoyable inter-club match last Saturday. In both cases St. George’s won the honours of the day but a very friendly and happy spirit prevailed throughout and a good standard of play was witnessed. Ladies’ Singles: Miss Peebles 1 lost to Miss M. Hall 7; Mrs Fogarty 1 lost to Mrs Hall 7; Mrs Symans 7 beat Miss Gartshore 3; Mrs Lynden 3 lost to Miss Righton 7. Gent’s Singles: W. Rutherford 9 beat E. Wilson 7; M. Wright 6 lost to P. Bryers 9; M. Lynden 9 beat W. Howat 5; Mr Forbes 9 lost to G. Tippett 2.
Ladies’ Doubles: Miss Peebles and Mrs Fogarty lost to Miss and Mrs Hall 7; Mrs Symans and Mrs Lynden 4 lost to Misses Gartshore and Righton 7.
Men’s Doubles: Rutherford and Lynden 4 lost to Wilson and Bryers 9; Wright and Forbes 9 beat Howat and Tippett 8. Combines: Miss Peebles and Rutherford 9 beat Miss Hall and Wilson 7; Mrs Fogarty and Wright 2 lost to Mrs Hall and Bryers 9; Mrs Symans and Lynden 2. lost to Miss Gartshore and Howat 9; Mrs Lynden and Forbes 8 lost to Miss Righton and Tippett 9. St. George’s won 10 matches to 6. B Teams Ladies’ Singles: Mrs McCallion 4 lost to Miss J. Francis 7; Miss T. Symans 3 lost to Miss P. Carter 7; Miss D. Sykes 4 lost to Mrs McLeod 7; Miss K. Kingsley 4 lost to Miss J. McLeod 7.

Ladies’ Doubles: Mrs McCallion and Miss Symans 5 lost to Misses Francis and Carter 7; Misses Sykes and Kingsley 4 lost to Mrs and Miss McLeod 7. Men’s Doubles: Semmens and Gray 6 lost to Berg and Johnson 9; McCallion and Sisam 8 lost to Morgan and Cave 9.
