INSPECTOR’S PROSECUTION EXCESSIVE SPEED The Transport Department prosecuted Ronald Pern, bus driver in the Whakatane Court yesterday on a charge of driving at an excessive speed" on the Whakatane-Rotorua main highway. The Traffic Inspector stated that he had checked defendant’s speed at 48 m.p.h., when driving a pasSenger bus through Te Teko.

Mr Barry who defended said that defendant fully realised that the Inspector was behind him and had not knowingly exceeded the speed limit. He had when reaching his depot had his speedometer checked and found that it was 10 miles out. Fined 20s and costs 10s 6d. Ronga Nuku, faced two charges of driving a trade motor with defective brakes. On the defective handbrake charge he was fined £2 and costs 15s, and on the defective footbrake, 20s and costs 235.
