WEEKEND SHOOT ROTORUA RETAIN CHALLENGE CUP There was a record attendance at the Whakatane Rod and Gun Club’s weekend shoot at Paroa last Sunda/. Weather conditions were perfect and some of the keenest snooting witnessed on the grounds took place.
The Rotorua team which contested the Bay of Plenty Challenge Cup, was lucky in retaining the trophy, in that the local team was close on its heels all the way, and were unanimously considered unfortunate in not carrying it off.
Details of the shooting were as under:— *
Eyeopener, 5 birds: K. Chadfield, W. G. Gillett, R. Young; A. J. Brown J. Tebbutt, G. D. Hynds, J. Hassett, P. Jaeger, J. Butler, W. Mayo, W. Costello, A. W. Jones, P. Steel and J. F. Thomas all shot the possible. 50 entries.
Ist £25 Open Handicap, 15 birds: F. Matchitt, R. Ricketts, E. Pratt, J. Plamus, J. Hayward, A. Hynds and S. Ker shot the possible and divided the prize. 49 entries. Team Shoot for the Bay of Plenty Challenge Cup: Rotorua retained the Cup after a very interesting match. The scores were: Rotorua 80, Taneatua 80, Opotiki 79, Whakatane 78, Tauranga 74. - 2nd £25 Open, 15 birds: W. Davies and J. A. Parkinson shot the possible and divided Ist and 2nd money, while R. Young, A. Powdrell, J. Plamus, F. Matchitt, J. Shove, J. Tebbutt, A. W. Jones and K. Chatfield divided 3rd and 4th money with one down. 32 entries. Box Shoot off 18yds: W. Costello and F. Matchitt shot the possible and divided the prize. 23 entries.
