REHABILITATION LOANS

CONTINUE STEADY 'CLIMB TOTAL NOW OVER £32,000,000 Continuing on the high level they maintained through the year, Rehabilitation loan authorisations for December numbered 1652 valued at £1,574,795. The figures represent an advance of 117 valued at £131,123 over those for November. The advance is appreciable in view of the fact that it took place partly over the holiday period. The total Rehabilitation loan authorisations was thus at the end of 1946 brought up to 40,935 valued at £32,487,150. . The current totals bringing up the figure of over £32,000,000 above are accounted for as follows: Erection of homes 5078 loans valued at £7,157,181, purchase of homes 8324 valued at £8,259,648, establishment of farms 3332 valued at £12,817,390, establishment of valued at £2,440,688, furniture 18,800 valued at £1,729,203, tools of trade 978 valued at £32,616 and miscellaneous 243 valued at £50,424. A feature of recent monthly authorisation figures is that though some have shown a tendency to maintain a fairly steady level those made for the erection of homes have shown a consistent increase. For December there were 407 loan authorisations for the erection of homes made to a value of £593,901, as compared with 342 valued at £503,901 for November, which in turn demonstrated the same tendency carrying on from October when there were 292 valued at £418,372. This confident trend is in part accounted for by the 50 per cent, allocation of building timber made to ex-members of the forces for home buildings. The December authorisations for the purchase of existing dwellings were 328 valued at. £342,911 as compared with 329 valued at £335,212 in November, figures which correspond very close with othose for the previoua month. Business loans with a slight increase of five to the value of £4076 totalled 113 with a value of £75,670 for December. Again the figures in connection with farms loans showed a very close correspondence with the previous month, being 121 and worth £499,943. Similarly interestfree furniture loans showed the small increase of 26 valued at close on £2OOO to bring the month’s total to 668 and £61,304; and interest-free tools of trade loans were nine valued at £313 which to were very close to the previous month’s authorisations; miscellaneous authorisations dere six valued at £753, nearly twice those for November.
