BOWING NOTES

jbEDOT WHAKATANE CLUB CUCKSEY CUP COMPETITION After three weekends away at regattas etc. the Whakatane Club reverted back to club races this week. This time they were for the Cucksey Cup and were most keenly contested owing to the crews being so evenly matched.

During the past week training has been going ahead well as the club is out to give a good account of itself at the Tauranga regatta on March 1. Following are the results of the races:— First Heat: J. Dent D .Stewart, R. King, B. Fitzgerald versus D. Keepa (s), E. Hunt, G. Moore, A. Atkinson. < • This proved a great tussle and ended in a dead heat. As the rules state that in the event of a dead heat it must be rowed again at once. Two very tired crews went back to the start and this time J. Dent got across the line a bare canvas ahead of Keepa’s crew. Second Heat: After another good race H. Armstrong (s), D. Kahui, G. Dines, K. Dines beat S. Dent (s), A. Head, L .Stewart, D. Wilson by six feet.

Final: H. Armstrong (s), K. Kahui G. Dines, K. Dines got the verdict from J. Dent (s), D. Stewart, R. King, B. Fitzgerald by two feet.
