First Things First

“Food before parrots,” was the reply of the Shaw Savill and Albion Company to a request received from a man in Australia who wished to ship 200 parrots and 10,000 finches from Perth to London in the Dominion Monarch from Wellington for England via Australia at the end of the month. No reason has been given for the request, but the prospective shipper stated that he would travel as a passenger on the ship on the voyage and tend to the birds. It was estimated that the cages required for the birds would occupy about 600 cubic feet of cargo space.
