A QUICK RESPONSE

READERS will note with satisfaction the advertisement in today's issue directing attention to the fact that the Ohope Progress League, is convening a meeting in the Hostel on Saturday next for the purpose of re-establishing the Surf Club. A letter accompanied by a donation has likewise been received by this office. Both these actions give an indication of the intense public feeling on the matter since the tragic accident of last weekend. Everyone will welcome the move by the League, but there is one thing which must not be overlooked. The establishment of a' Surf Club, composed of young and trained men prepared to devote their leisure for the safety of others, is not a responsibility limited to Ohope alone. It is a duty which applies directly to every person in town and district and beyond who makes use of Ohope Beach as a resort. In this manner it will readily be recognised that supporters must be legion. Funds should not be lacking to recondition the pavilion at once, and to re-equip the Club with the necessary lines and reels. Money in fact should be the least obstacle. It is members who will be wanted* and they in their turn • require the interest of the general public in order to maintain their own attachment to the humanitarian job .they have undertaken. Everything therefore depends upon a good response to the Progress League's inaugural meeting, and for this reason we know that every parent will be directly interested. Roll up tomorrow evening in the interests of keeping Ohope's reputation as a safe beach for all types of bathers.
