Bay of Plenty Beacon Published Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 7, 1947 THE A. & P. SHOW

SATURDAY (February 15th) will mark the annual Summer Show promoted by the Whakatane and Rangitaiki A. and P. Association. The event is this year commanding greater attention than ever, and from the secretary we learn that indications as far as show entries are concerned are very gratifying. It must be pointed out again that the Show constitutes the finest advertisement for town and district it is possible to have. The finest bloodstock, from the dairy herds, from the sheep-runs, from the piggeries and from the horse-breeders are listed together and exhibited in friendly rivalry in order to maintain a standard of excellence which will compare favourably with other and neighbouring districts. To the show will come visitors from all corners of the South Auckland and East Coast areas. Upon the exhibits displayed will be based their impression of the district as a prosperous farming area or otherwise. Without boasting we can justly assert that hitherto the Whakatane & Rangitaiki districts have earned a particularly fine reputation in this respect in the past, and the forthcoming Show is yet a further challenge to pastoralists not merely to maintain that standard but to surpass it. Townspeople owe a duty to the exhibition in that it represents the best efforts in the rural districts from which Whakatane draws its main revenue, and likewise owes its excuse for existence as a progressive centre. The fullest support should be afforded the event. Patrons are indeed the greatest moral support for any show, for not only do they ensure a substantial gate, but the mere fact of their presence and interest lends additional spur to the committee and workers to carry on to greater and better efforts.
