OPOTIKI SHEEP FAIR Messrs. Dalgety and Co. Ltd., report having held their Autumn Sheep Fair on Saturday, February 1, when considerably over the advertised number of 10,500 sheep were offered to a good representative attendance of buyers from the Whakatane, Te Puke, Tauranga, Rotorua, Waikato and surrounding districts. As a result of the mild winter and good spring weather the sheep came forward in particularly good order and were keenly sought after, competition being sustained throughout, resulting in a total clearance of the yarding under the hammer at prices considerably in excess of those ruling over a number of years and very satisfactory to vendors concerned. An outstanding section of the offering was the yarding of forward conditioned 4 and 6th wethers for which there was spirited competition and good figures realised, top price of the sale being for a particularly nice line offered on account of Mr J. H. Reid which realised 31s 6d, other good lines making between 30s and 3s 6d. 2th wethers' sold particularly well, top price in this section being realised for a pen of finished 2ths offered on account of Mr E. J. Brown which-realised 305,. other lines making, from 28s to 29s 9d. Lambs both black faced an white faced were keenly sought after and a pen of well-grown woolly ewe lambs topped the lamb market at 255, the wether lambs from the same place realising 22s 6d. Good black faced lambs were in demand forward lines making from 20s to 23s Id. In the ewe offering top price for 2ths wes 35s 6d for a well-grown line sold on account of Mr J. B. Stansbury, another good line on account of Mr E. J. Brown making 34s 6d and a bigger line on account, of Messrs. Redpath Bros, realising 33s 6d. A pen of 121 well-grown and forward conditioned maiden 4th ewes offered on account of Mr P. G. Looney changed hands at the satisfactory figure of 355. There was marked competition for 5 year old ewes, top price of the day being realised for a line of 427 offered on account of Mr Alex Macrae which changed hands at 30s. Another line offered on account of C. J. and Estate A. C. Gordon was sold at 29s lOd and a pen on account of Edward Estate at 28s 3d, the same price being realised for a line of 188 sold on account of Mi" N. D. Attwood of Wairata. Following are a range of prices:— Good woolly ewe lambs to 255; forward B.F. lambs 20s to 23s Id; medium B.F. lambs 18s to 19s 9d; small B.F. lambs 16s 2d to 17s 9d; M.S. lambs 19s to 22s 3d; woolly wether lambs 21s to 22s 6d; good shorn wether lambs 20s 6d to 22s 3d; good forward 4 and 6th .wethers 30s to 31s 6d; medium forward 4 and 6th wethers 28s 6d to 29s 9d; good 2th wethers 27s Sd to 30s; 2 and 4th wethers 29s lOd to 30s 6d: good 2th ewes 33s 6d to 35s 6d; 'medium 2th ewes 29s 3d to 335; good maiden 4th ewes 30s to 34s 6d; good 5 year ewes 28s 3d to 30s; medium 5 year ewes 26s to 27s 9d; 5 and 6 year ewes 24s to 25s 6d; F.M. ewes 20s to 23s 6d; aged ewes 15s 9d to 20s 6d..
