LIQUOR TO NATIVES

LOCAL PAKEHA FINED

INCIDENT AT TE TEKO

Charged with supplying two natives with three bottles of beer each on the evening of December 24 last, Brian Wilson Lambert, of Te Teko, pleaded guilty before Mr E. L. Walton, S.M., in the Whakatane Magistrate’s Court yesterday. Sergeant Farrell said that defendant had handed over the bottles to two Maoris after having procured them from the Te Teko Hotel. He had, he said, known both men since boyhood and did not consider there was a great deal of harm in his action. Defendant pointed out that his gesture had been merely one of goodwill to friends. He was not lining his own pocket in the process. Fined £2 and costs 255.
