A Big Win
“Fill them up for the bar, I’ve had' a big win,” said the wife of the licensee of a Dunedin hotel on her return from a trotting meeting at Forbury. The size'of the big win was demonstrated when the cheque received by the lucky investor was displayed, her figure being £628. “I had another horse picked for that race,” she said, “but I was told that Punctual had a chance and to be on it, so I put all my previous winnings on.” It is reported that another investor at. the meeting who had several tickets on the same horse, was so overcome by his good fortune that he fell down the grandstand steps. Punctual paid over the half century for a win and something better than double figures for a place.
