EXPORT MEAT KILLINGS

NEW SEASONS PRODUCTION Export meat killings at New Zealand Freezing .Works for the period Ist October, 1946, to 28th December, 1946, show a slight decrease of approximately 600 tons over the corresponding period for last season states the New Zealand Meat Producers Board in its initial survey of the new season’s production. Last season drought conditions in the\ North Island resulted in early slaughtering of lambs. This season’s conditions are more normal resulting in killings of lambs being approximately 200,000 carcases less than for the same period last season. Although the weather during the last three or four months has been generally unseasonable stock appears to be coming forward in excellent condition. The average v/eights of sheep and lambs killed are considerably ahead of those of last season and are the highest recorded for this period since the 1940-41 season. Export killings to the 28th December are set out below with the corresponding figures for the previous season in parentheses : North Island

Lamb (c/cs) 1,377,518 (1 ,588,500) Wethers (c/cs) 85,584 ( 50,040) Ewes (c/cs 79,635 ( 68,412) Beef (qrs) 37,259 ( 35,924) Porkers (c/cs) 5,744 ( 11,863) Baconers (c/cs) 44,123 ( * 69,228)
