RABBIT CONTROL

PONGAKAWA BOARD MONTHLY MEETING The monthly meeting of the Pongakawa Rabbit Board took place recently, Messrs. J. N. Blaymires, A. H. Jamieson, R. F. Black, C. H. Davis and M. B. McKenzie being present. Accounts totalling £66 10s lid were passed for payment. It was decided that pursuant to Section 76 of the Rating Act, 1925, an additional charge of 10 per cent, should be added to all rates unpaid at the expiration of six months and 14 days from the date of the demand thereof, and that public notice be given accordingly. The secretary stated that the penalty date would be the 15th February, 1947.

New Award A letter from the Union enquiring whether there were any recommendations for amendments to the existing Award was received and it was resolved to suggest that the Service Bonus be deleted and that the weekly rate of pay be increased accordingly. Regarding membership, the secretary stated that he had not yet received a reply to his communication.

Grants

The secretary stated that the unexpended balances at 11th December, 1946, were as follows: Fumigation Grant £362; Native £l2B 4s lOd; Crown £l2O Is Id; State Forest £99 It was intimated that the next meeting would take place in February. The Board resolved to place on record appreciation of the service given by all officers and members of the staff during the past year. The secretary was directed to advise the men accordingly, and to convey to them seasonal greetings. Inspector’s Report

The Inspector, •Mr C. H. Davis, reported that during the month he had worked on numerous private, Crown and Native lands in the area. 11,850 acres had been poisoned, and 14,170 acres fumigated. Results had been good, and although there were still a lot of young rabbits in the Manawahe district, the situation was under control. The Te Teko and Murupara areas were good. The report concluded with a short note expressing appreciation of the efforts of the staff during the year.
