CHARGE OF FIGHTING
TWO MAORIS INVOLVED In the Whakatane Court before Mr E. L. Walton, S.M., last Tuesday, two Maoris, Poki Waiari and James Ahipene were jointly charged with fighting in a public place. The incident took place at Te Teko on October 12. Richard Park, Maori Warden at Te Teko, stated that he had seen the two accused fighting in front of the Te Teko Hotel. A group of Maoris was present. He managed to separate the two offenders, and sent them off down the road. When they reached the billiard saloon they again started fighting, and when he once more, separated them, they were both in a knocked-about condition. A fine of £2 each was inflicted with costs, in ■ the case of Waiari, amounting to 43/6, ana in the case of Ahipene, to 35/6.- 1
