YOUNG MAN’S OFFENCE
THEFT OF BILLIARD BALLS Charged with the theft of three billiard balls from a Whakatane saloon, a young man who faced the Whakatane Court last Monday was convicted and fined £2, and an order iliade for suppression. Messrs. C. H. Christensen and C. S. Armstrong, J.P.s were on the Bench. Sergeant Farrell stated that on November 15, the day on which the offence occurred, accused was under the influence of liquor. He entered one of the local billiard saloons, the proprietor refused to allow him to use a table. Before leaving the saloon he took the three billiard balls. He was accosted at the door, the balls retrieved, and the offence reported. Accused bore a good character and was a returned serviceman. He had recently started in business in the town. This was a first offence and was obviously not a premeditated
one. Sentence was passed as above.
