VALEDICTORY

MR AND MRS H. WARD CITIZEN’S BAND FUNCTION A social gathering of members of the Citizens Brass Band Committee took place at the residence of Mr and Mrs W. Jarrett last Tuesday evening, for the purpose of farewelling Mr-and Mrs H. Ward, wellknown residents of Kopeopeo.

In presenting the guests of hon-

our with an electric hot water jug, the President, Mr A. J. Canning, thanked both Mr and Mrs Ward for the splendid assistance they had rendered the organisation, ever since the Boys’ Band was first formed. He wished them the -best of luck for the future.

Messrs. W. Jarrett, F. G. Cutler and H. G. Warren also spoke, endorsing the president’s remarks, and adding their own best wishes. A toast was then proposed to the guests, and musical honours accorded. Further toasts were accorded Mrs Mayo, and Mr and Mrs W. Jarrett. The former, was proposed by Mr F. Skelton, who, on behalf of the committee, thanked Mrs Mayo for her untiring help and her interest in the Band. He mentioned particularly the manner in which she had helped those boys who took part, with such marked success, in the recent Hamilton Contests.

Mr J. Miles proposed the latter toast, and in so doing, extended the thanks of the committee to Mr and Mrs Jarrett for organising the farewell function.
