FIELD DAY
TANEATUA YOUNG FARMERS STUD FARM VISITED Last Wednesday the Taneatua Young Farmers’ Club payed a most enjoyable visit in the form of a field day, to Messrs. F. J. Savage and Son’s Tuhoe Jersey and Thoroughbred Stud at Waimana. The sixteen members present were welcomed by Mr Ivan Savage who conducted them over the entire breeding establishment. Members were particularly impressed with the excellent situation and general outlay of the stud, the rich pasture lands and fine buildings of which must compare favourably with any in the Dominion.
Keen interest was shown in the dairy herd and young stock, and the fine quality on display was proof of the success the stud has achieved at Bay of Plenty Shows in the past. The Thoroughbred Stud and modern stabling was an education to most of the members. The breeding mares and foals were inspected after which the recently imported stud sire “Pictavia,” was paraded. Also on display was the stud’s consignment of yearling colts and fillies for the National Thoroughbred Sales at' Tfentham in January,
Many other outstanding features of the stud were inspected including the piggeries and the system of watering the stock fey gravitating the water from a reservoir in a high central position. At the conclusion of a most enjoyable day, Mr Neil Reid, an advisory member of the club, thanked Mr Savage for the excellent part he had played as host.
