ELECTION DANCE
JUNIOR NATIONAL PARTY ENTERTAINS FUNCTION AT OHOPE One of the most successful functions which took place on election night was the dance sponsored by the Junior National Party Club at Ohopc, in the Captain’s Cabin Hall. A large crowd from all parts of the district attended, and the event went with a swing from start to finish. A feature of the evening was the posting of the election results as they came to hand. Bay of Plenty figures were heralded by a fanfare on each occasion, and when the final figures were posted the enthusiasm of the crowd was obvious. Towards the end, Mr and Mrs W. Sullivan, together with leading members of the local National Committee arrived and were welcomed. Speaking to the assembly, Mr Sullivan expressed his thanks to his supporters for their co-operation and help, and commented on the number of young people taking ah interest in politics. He was pleased to see this, and also -to note the number who had recorded their vote. Musical honours were accorded the party, after which the guests joined in the dancing for a short time. For the dance itself, Freddie Burt’s Cabaret Orchestra supplied excellent music. The floor was in tip-top condition, and under the hand of Mr Guy Thornton, as Master of Ceremonies, the crowd entered well into the spirit of the occasion. A delightful supper was served by the ladies of the committee, and
dancing concluded at a late hour
