WAIMANA NEWS

FINAL WELCOME HOME

SUCCESSFUL DANCE

The final welcome home dance sponsored by the Waimana. Farewell and Welcome Home Committee, was held recently in the Waimana Hall. There was a large crowd of dancers present, and a happy atmosphere was apparent. ' The Waimana Orchestra supplied the dance music and an extra was contributed by Mr A. Bell. * A number of novelty dances were held, including lucky Gay Gordons, a Confetti dance and Monte Carlos.

Mr D. Boynton made a very efficient M.C. and Mr S. Eagle was doorkeeper. During the evening, Mr J. L. Burnett, called on the guests to accept a small gift from the residents of Nukuhbu North and Waimana, as a token of appreciation. v The returned soldiers present were Private Pomare Hemi and Private Henry Tei Wairua. Both Went to the Middle East, Italy and Japan.

Mr Burnett stated that this was the function all had waited for—the final dance in connection with war, organised by the Patriotic Committees and Dance Committees. He also took the opportunity to thank all who had helped with functions during the dark days now past and £6OOO had been raised for Patriotic purposes—a very creditable effort.

Mr Burnett also thanked Mrs Wylde, for the great amount of work done by her during and since the war, and also Mr and Mrs M. King for playing for all soldiers dances during the war. The guests both in a short reply thanked Mr Burnett and all for the gift and evening staged in their honour.

Dancing continued until a late hour and the National Anthem closed the evening.
