HEALTH STAMPS

RECORD FIRST DAY SALES

LOCAL COMMUNITY'S REPORT

The Whakatane community, and particuarly the business section stepped itself out on Thursday when the new issue Health Stamps were released. Sales soared beyond all previous figures, and a new sales record was set at £B9 13s 4d. It should be noted that this figure concerns only sales made in the business section. Last year's first day sales from the same source totalled in comparison only £27. The committee in charge of sales in the business section consisted of Messrs C. F.. Thomas (president), R. Morpeth, H. G. Warren, T. H. Dixon (secretary) and H. Trask. The president stated yesterday, that he had received the utmost cooperation from the business community, whilst the Chamber of Commerce had also been of invaluable assistance in promoting sales. Sales over the Post Office counter were exceptionally brisk, and at 2 p.m., approximately £2O had been -realised from small lots.
