CROQUET SEASON

WHAKATANE CLUB

Last Wednesday, October 16, the local Croquet Club was opened in weather that was ideal for the occasion. There was a large attendance of members and visitors and a very enjoyable afternoon was spent by all. The President, Mrs Burgess, in her opening address expressed pleasure at the very large attendance and made special mention regarding members of the Opotiki Croquet Club who had come over for the opening. Mrs Maddern, President of the Opotiki Club, suitably responded. During the afternoon competitions were held and a bring and buy stall was well patronised. The following are the winners of the various competition:— Progressive Croquet: Mrs Sutherland. Consolation: Mrs Hollard, Opotiki. Ladder Croquet: Mrs Hellyar. Hitting the Peg: Mrs Skelton, Opotiki. '

Making the Hoop: Mrs Palmer, Opotiki. Dressing Table Set: J. Chadwick. Box Chocolates: Mrs Chatfield, Opotiki. A feature of the opening was the very happy atmosphere which permeated the gathering and with prospects of at least 10 new members joing up, this season promises to be a very successful one in every way.
