WOMEN’S INSTITUTE

MEETING AT WAIMANA GARDENING CIRCLE The October meeting of the Wai-man-Nukuhou Women’s Institute gardening circle, was held at Mrs A. Macdonald’s home, Waimana. There' was a good attendance of members. An interesting reading was given by Mrs Woolfield, on different types of spring bulbs, daffodils etc. and how to select good blooms. It was decided to hold a competition for cactus dahlias and it was left to Mrs King to secure the plants. The competition next month is a jazz bowl of flowers. Two competitions arranged by Mrs Macdonald, were won by Mrs Wylde, Mrs R. White and Mrs Woolfield. The day’s entries for the competitions were judged by Mrs Gee, and the results were as follows: Best flower: Mrs.C. Hampton 1; Mrs Hughes 2; Mrs White'3. Best vegetable: Mrs R. White 1; Mrs Hampton 2; Mrs Hughes 3. Tall vase of flowering scrubs: Mrs Woolfield 1; Mrs Wylde 2; Mrs Hughes 3. After afternoon tea members viewed the well-kept garden and lawns and spraxias given by a member of the Waiotahi gardening circle were distributed among members. Mrs King then thanked. Mrs Macdonald for the pleasant’ afternoon spent by all and for the use of her home.
