SOCIAL AND DANCE

THORNTON RED CROSS ENTERTAINS A pleasant and successful evening was held in the Thornton Hall last Saturday when the Thornton branch of the Red Cross Society sponsored a social and dance. A number of kiddies were present as well as a good attendance of adults, and the hours were passed in children’s games, entertainment and dancing. For the last named Mr Ted Hayden supplied popular music, whilst Mr Arbuckle made an efficient M.C. A Monte Carlo which was held was won by Mr Sehneller and Miss R. Martin. A feature of the evening was a Bring and Buy organised by the ladies. The stall was patronised freely, and those in charge were kept constantly employed. On the entertainment side, two members of Women’s Institute supplied a short play which was very much enjoyed. The lights, unfortunately, went out at 11.30, before the performance was finished, but torchlight supplied sufficient illumination for the play to conclude. Several competitions were held, and these were entered into on a wholesale scale. The evening concluded at midnight, and could be judged as one of the most successful staged by the Thornton Committee.
