A total of £35,971,550 had at the end of August'been authorised for all rehabilitation purposes by the Rehabilitation Board through its various agencies. Of this, £26,706,903 was for financial advances to exservicemen and women to obtain farms, houses, businesses, furniture, tools of trade, and for other miscellaneous purposes.
The purchase of lands for settlement by ex-serVicemen and the development and other expenses involved accounted for £5,309,790 of the total, .while £310,254 was for financial assistance rendered to Maori ex-servicemen and women, as apart from aid .given through normal channels open to Maori and pakeha alike. All types of trade and occupational training involved £2,162,267, while farm training accounted for £280,775, much of this being for ■ subsidies paid to farmers employing ex-ser-vicemen trainees. Other authorisations were: Education £621,036,. rehabilitation allowances £429,326, grants to Disabled Servicemen’s (Re-establishment League £52,000, grants and training for blinded ex-servicemen £31,504, travelling and removal expenses £24,620,. special grants £23,100, intermediate scheme for training of temporarily disabled ex-servicemen £18,952, and exchange paid on overseas separation allowances £1023.
