WHAKATANE BRANCH

Those present at the last meeting of the Whakatane R.S.A. executive were: Messrs. L. H. Brown (President) in the chair, D. &. Wilson, R. Bluett, T. Mackin, C. R. E. Wilson, J. Stewart, Geo. Otley, J. H. Armstrong, L. M. Roach, Doug. Wilson, N. Patterson, C. Head and Rev. Rangi. Apologies were received from Messrs. Bryant, Cutler, Mexted, Hall and Luxton? . A donation was received from Mr C. F. Thomas in connection with the Coronation Ball, together with a framed photograph of the Crowning ceremony.

Appreciation was expressed of Messx’s. H. L. Richardson’s and W. Thompson’s donations of two heifers each to the Gift Cattle Scheme. It was decided to hand one to a Maori Serviceman who has commenced farming. Letters of appreciation were received from two Servicemen for donations of stock. *

Mr C. R. Wilson gave an interesting report on the above conference at which the Minister of Rehabilitation attended.

Executive members were asked to attend the public meeting to be held on October 10 to go into this matter. The question of Rehabilitation of Returned Servicemen into transport business was discussed and the following sub-committee was , formed to go into the matter and report back to the executive: Messrs. Geo. Otley, C. R. Ej Wilson, T. Mackin, D. Wilson, N. Patterson and Rev. Rangi. The president reported on the recent Maori Reunion and stated that it was an outstanding success. About 150 members attended the annual smoko and an enjoyable evening was spent.

Congratulations were extended to Mr Doug, Wilson, a member of the executive, who was married recently.

High praise of the outstanding work done by this committee was received from two outside sources and the congratulations of the executive were extended to Mr C. R. E. Wilson the Chairman of the subFarming Committee.
