YOUNG CALEDONIANS

MURRAY CLAN ENTERTAINS SUCCESSFUL SOCIAL & DANCE A highly successful social and dance was sponsored by members of the Murray Clan under the auspices of the Young Caledonians Club, in the Caledonian Hall last Saturday evening. A large and happy crowd was present, and proceedings moved smoothly with a typical Scottish atmosphere from beginning to end, The evening started in the traditional manner ,with Chief George Paterson, being piped in by Piper Barry ..Thomas. Clan Leader George Goodall followed leading the Murrays, and the non-stop programme of entertainment commenced. Candles as the sole means of lighting, added a novel touch, and lent a soft glow to the hall, decorated with flowers and greenery. Music for dancing was supplied by Mr Pat Smythe (piano) and Mr D. Paterson (drums), whilst the latter also piped tunes for the long list of items. Terry Murray Warner and Des Murray Carling jointly acted as Master of Ceremonies. The number of items of an evenly high standard which were presented, contributed much towards the success of the evening. A chorus consisting of Clan members supplied vocal renditions of ‘Anne Laurie’ and ‘Loch Lomond’; Lucy Lowe sang ‘The Gipsy’ and ‘Symphony’, with Mrs A. Stewart as accompanist; Terry Warner and George Paterson supplied a duet, ‘A Little On The Lonely Side’ and ‘Shine On Harvest Moon’; Janet and Margaret Pithy danced the Sword Dance, Rae Coutts and Nancy K-il-gour the Fling, Lennie Butler the Irish Jig; and Mr C. Thomas and B. Mole gave a ‘radio’ sketch. At an appropriate interval, a delightful supper was served.

The function concluded, at midnight, the Murrays having proved themselves excellent and capable hosts.
