BADMINTON
AWAKERI VICTORY KEENLY CONTESTED TOURNAMENT Awakeri defeated Tauranga in an inter-club Badminton match held at Awakeri on Saturday last. All games were very keenly contested and the local players gave an excellent account of themselves. Final l'esult was Awakeri 10 games, Tauranga 2. Details were as under, Tauranga names being mentioned first in each case:— Gent’s Doubles: Gammon and Dyer 21 beat J. Sutton and M. Jensen 16; Johnston and Granger 16 lost to R. Cobden and F. Jensen 21; Green and Mackey 16 lost to S. Luttrell and R. Andrews 21. Ladies’ Doubles: Miss Ray and Wrattan 6 lost to Mrs Rust and Mrs Rae 21; Miss Mathieson and Mrs Power 7 lost to Miss Luttrell and Miss MacDonald ,21; Miss McLean and Miss Semmens 16 lost to Miss Jensen and Miss Tyssen 21. Combines: Gammon and Miss Ray 21 beat Sutton and Mrs Rust 12; Johnston and Miss Wrattan 14 lost to Jensen and Mrs Rae 21; Dyer and Mrs Power 14 lost to Cobden and Miss Luttrell 21; Granger and Miss Semmens 16 lost to F. Jensen and Miss MacDonald 21; Green and Miss McLean 14 lost to Andrews and Miss Tyssen 21; Mackey and Miss Mathieson 18 lost to Luttrell and Miss Jensen 21. An excellent supper was served and the evening passed quickly, everyone departing in high spirits. TEAM TO MEET AWAKERI
