Greatest Ocean
The world’s largest ocean—the Pacific —occupies more space than all the lands on the globe. It could hold two Atlantics and still have enough room for a few Mediterraneans. More than half the world’s water lies in the Pacific. Its greatest north to south dimension is 9,300 miles, an its greatest width is 10,300 miles, It takes the sun 10 hours to cross it. There are canyons in the bed of this ocean that drop farther below sea level than the world’s tallest mountain rises above it.
