BOILER REPLACEMENT
RANGITAIKI DAIRY COMPANY
ESTIMATED COST OF £20,000
“It is not often that I have to warn shareholders of heavy capital outlay at an annual meeting,” said Mr W. A. McCracken at last Wednesday’s meeting of suppliers.
He went on to say that that the past few years warning had been given that the existing boilers had. been carrying a 75 per cent, excess load which made adequate replacement imperative. The main reason was due to the new method in processing cream. The Directorate was desirous of installing a boiler plant which would serve the needs of the company for all time. Investigation had shoivn fhat multi-tube boilers should be used to obtain the finest result. To this end it was decided to take the necessary steps to install the new boilers which without the crediting sale of the old boilers (which would be considerable) were estimated to cost £20,000. He thought that about this time next year the new boilers would be installed. ' Dealing with staff accommodation, Mr McCracken went on to say that one of the most pressing, needs of the company was the erection of houses for members of the staff. Protracted negotiations with the Government had been fruitless and the company was seriously concerned as to what steps it cquld take. There was a need of from 8 to 10 new houses and these under pre-sent-day costs were estimated at £I7OO each. The company could not hope for an immediate answer to the problem but he suggested that it might be tackled in a small way and at least get something done in order to make for a more satisfied staff. * •
