BASKETBALL GALA

FORTHCOMING SPORTS GATHERING

With a view to raising sufficient funds to lay down a permanent court in the Whakatane Domain, the local Basketball Association plans to run a special Children’s Sports gathering and Gala on Saturday, September 14 next. It is hoped to get access to the Government subsidy under the Physical Welfare scheme should sufficient funds be raised. By way of making the Gala as widely known as possible all district schools have been invited to enter athletic and marching teams for a special award. To date a substantial number have entered.

The Association lays special emphasis on the school children as it is felt that the school girl of today will become the potential basketball player of tomorrow, and to this end it is felt that an early interest should be aroused.
