LEAGUE OF MOTHERS
WHAKATANE BRANCH MEETS The Whakatane branch of the League of Mothers held its monthly meeting at Knox Hall on July 30, the president, Mrs Gow, presiding. Proceedings opened with the singing of the League Hymn, after which the Rules and Objects of the League were recited. The reports of the president and treasurer were read and adopted. The election of officers resulted as follows; — President: Mrs Metcalfe. Vice-presidents: Mesdames Hogg, Gow, Sullivan and Armstrong. Secretary: Mrs McKenzie. Treasurer: Mrs Breward. Committee: Mesdames Gartshore, Warner, Hamill, Woolliams, Suckling, Rowan, Darvill and Shaw with power to add. Sunshine Circle: Mesdames Warner and Woolliams. Mrs Suckling who has served the League- so faithfully for ten years was presented with a lovely bouquet of spring flowers as also was the retiring president, Mrs Gow, and our secretary, Mrs McKenzie.
Mrs Good and Mrs Metcalfe delighted all present by singing two duets “Perfect Day” and “Come Sing To Me” being ably accompanied by Mrs Schofield. Mrs King played for a musical competition which was won by Mrs Schofield who received a bouquet of spring flowers. Mrs Jessop sang two delightful numbers “Alice Blue Gown” and “Perfect Prayer” being ably accompanied by Mrs Schofield.* Mrs Hamill gave the thought for the month “Those who bring sunshine out to others cannot withhold it from themselves.”
Afternoon tea was served, after which the singing of the National Anthem brought the meeting to a close.
