HOCKEY DANCE

ENJOYABLE TANEATUA GATHERING

The most enjoyable dance to be held at Taneatua for .some considerable time was that sponsored by the Taneatua Ladies’ Hockey Club. The proceedings were characterised by that lilt and swing which means the difference between a really good dance and any other. The Premier Dance Band was at the peak of its form and M.C. Norman Semmens was really capable and kept events moving at an even pace throughout the evening. One of the highlights was two songs by the ever popular Bunny Whetu who charmed the large crowd with his “Begin the Beguine” and “Amour.” The Hoke Toke was danced with zest and hilarity and an encore demanded. There were also several novelty dances.

The hockey girls dispensed a very delicious and plentiful supper after which Mrs N. Semmens, on behalf of the team thanked all those who had assisted them in any way. Our correspondent wonders if the closing stages of the dance which was held in the dim rays of two lanterns made any of those present go ail reminiscent. Possibly not as most of those to whom that form of illumination would bring back memories would be snugly tucked in their blankets their dancing days well and truly over.
