WHAKATANE MEN’S CLUB The first qualifying round of the Club Championships was played on Saturday and scoring generally was not up to the standard expected. Only one player Burstall, 81—10—71 playing below his handicap. The best scores in the seniors were Burstall 81, Hockin 82, and Hyland 83—in the intermediates Combes 91, L. B. Smith 91 and Tomlinson 93, and in the juniors B. Butler 98, Turnbull 101 and Bushett 102. The results so far in the Fortune and Founders Cups and Flight I are: Fortune Cup, B. Butler beat Connell; Pattison beat R. Butler; Burstall beat D. Luxton; L. B. Smith beat Akel; Spence beat Bridger; Sharkey beat Corbett; M. Stubbs beat Bushett.

Founders Cup: Wright beat D. lay; Suckling beat Roach; Littlejohn beat Wilson; Wylds beat Tippett; Luxton beat Stone; 'Milne beat Cradwick.

Flight I: Syme beat Barry; Denham beat King; A. Morpeth beat White; Hockin beat Rankin; R. J. Smith beat Ducker; A. P. Smith beat Winstone; Hyland beat Turnbull. The second round of the above knock-out competition commences on Saturday and the first round games not yet completed must be played before that date. The draw is on the notice board also for the consolation flights for those beaten in the first round.

TE TEKO CLUB DRAW FOR LADIES’ PLAY Following is the draw for the August Medal to be played this week:— Thursday: Mrs L. B. Smith and Mrs Craddock; Mrs Moulden and Mrs Mcßride; Mrs Balfour and Mrs Caldwell; Mrs Thomas and Mrs Burr; Mrs Cannell and Miss Linsell; Mrs Linsell and Miss Brooks; Miss Murray and Miss Knight. Sunday: Mrs Anderson and Mrs Burr; Miss Walker and Miss Knight. The result of the Medal round played last week was as follows: ‘B’ Grade: Mrs Thomas 93-« -19—74; ‘C’ Grade: Miss Linsell 195.
