ODDFELLOWSHIP

WELCOME HOME BANQUET HAPPY AWAKERI FUNCTION A very successful Banquet was held in the Awakeri Hall on a recent Wednesday in honour of members of Group 19 of the Auckland District of the Manchester Unity Independant Order of Oddfellows, who have served with the Forces overseas. Group 19 comprises the Loyal Whakatane, Loyal Rangitaiki, Loyal Taneatua and Loyal Opotiki Lodges. The Auckland District was represented by Bro. W. Meads, District Grand Master, of Taumarunui, Bro. T. Dobson, Deputy District Grand Master, Wanganui District was also present. One hundred and twenty-five members and friends were present. Sis. Storer P.G., Sis. Teasdale P.G. and Sis. Archer acted as hostesses. The duties of toastmaster were ably carried out by Bro. H. Quayle P.G.

Following the Loyal Toast, the standard list was honoured as under: “Our Guests” Bros C. Brown and J. C. Harris; “The Manchester Unity” Bros S. Storer- and W. Meads; “Visiting Members, Friends and Kindred Societies” Bros W. John and Cartel (Druids); “Group 19” Bros O. Lawrie and H. Quayle; “The Brotherhood” Sister Gardiner and Bro A. Teasdale; “The Sisterhood” Bro Atkinson and Sister Archer; “The Silent Toast, Fallen Members and Absent Friends” Bro F. Cutler; Artists and Caterers Bro Bodman and Mr Bell; “The Toastmaster” Bros Dobson and Quayle. At the conclusion of the toasts Bra Quayle took the opportunity of thanking Sister Archer, Bro Harris P.G. and Bro Moore for the work they had done to make the evening the success it proved to be. After an enjoyable repast, those present moved to sides of the hall, until the tables were cleared, and then dancing took place until the early hours of Thursday morning.
