YOUNG MUSICIANS
WHAKATANE CITIZENS’ BAND ANNUAL MEETING The annual meeting of the Whakatane Citizens’ Band was held in the Band Room on July 24, a representative attendance being present. The reading of the balance sheet showed a very profitable year’s operation, the surplus making a welcome addition to the instrument fund. The election of officers was proceeded with as under:— Patron: Mr W. Sullivan, M.P. President: Mr A. J. Canning. Vice-presidents: Mrs T. James and Messrs. F. B. Cutler, C. A. Suckling, J. Pyne, T. James and N. Bremner. Secretary-Treasurer: P. Ward. Committee: Messrs. H. E. Ward, F. Skelton, J. Warner, A. Stewart, J. Miles, J. Pyne, W. Jarrett, H. Warren and W. Smith. Conductor: Mr W. Jarrett. Assistant Conductor: Mr K. Jarrett. Hon. Auditor: Mr H. O. Garaway. Drum Major; J. Miles. Band Sergeant: A. Moore. Occasion was taken during the evening to welcome back Keith Donaldson and Ken Jarrett the band being fortunate in obtaining Ken as assistant conductor. On the conclusion of the business the band gave a rendering of the selection, hymn, and march which it is to play at the forthcoming Band Contest in Hamilton on August 24 and 25. A very high standard of playing has been reached and great confidence is felt both by the players and their supporters that they have the ability to stage a worthy performance. A very pleasant evening and a successful year was brought to a close with the provision by the ladies committee of a tasty supper.
