WEALTH IN BIRD SEED
Mr Ernest Harris, of Roel Farm, Guiting Power, in the Cotswolds, has harvested from ten acres of land which were used by U.S. troops as a tank training ground, nearly £14,000 worth of—canary seed. The growing of canary seed was prohibited during the war without the consent of the county war agricultural committee. Mr Harris did not worry: his ten acres were under the control of the U.S. Army authorities.
He expects that his harvest of bird seed will thresh out at between 30 cwt. and two tons an acre. He also expects to sell his seed at aboutß/a lb.—or £44 16/- per cwt.!
