SCHOOL HEATING

FIRES IN CLASS ROOMS At the last meeting of the Whakatane School Committee, the question of whether adequate fires were being lit in the school on cold mornings arose. The matter arose as the result of comments by several members that they had heard that fires in some rooms, were not being lit. The Headmaster (Mr I. B. Hubbard) stated that there were always as far as he was aware, sufficient fires. There was plenty of fuel available and it was left to the individual teacher to decide when the morning was cold enough for a fire. There was no question of the teacher not bothering to light one. There was no bother attached to obtaining wood or other fuel.

Mr W. Whittaker concluded the discussion with the remark that the committee had recently spent £7O on firing. They could not let it be said now that there was a lack of heating.
